Executives from Microsoft released statements saying the anticipated Windows 7 operating system is expected to be released by the holidays of 2009 to replace the unpopular Windows Vista system.

The giant of software is expected to try and win back the loyalty of some of it's former users with this new operating system. After Vista Microsoft was seeing drops in sales and an increase in many disappointed and wary customers. By attempting to release Windows 7 this year, Microsoft is attempting to take advantage of the back-to-school rush with students and holiday shoppers for family members and friends. "Many are pushing us to release the product sooner rather than later, but our focus remains on a high quality release," said the head of Microsoft's Windows business, Steven Sinofsky, in a blog on Monday.
