IRC Information

LaG has long used IRC (Internet Relay Chat) as our primary form of text communication. It is the best way to get in touch with us, as there is almost always someone available in our chat rooms to help out.

If you are unfamiliar with IRC, there are a couple of applications you can use to access it. First, and probably the most popular IRC client in the world, is mIRC. mIRC is shareware and can be downloaded for free (tutorial). There is also a lot of good general IRC information on the mIRC site. Other clients include BitchX (for *NIX) and Ircle and Colloquy (for Macs). If you have Trillian, you may use it to connect to IRC networks as well.

LaG Public Channel Rules - What is acceptable and what will get me blacklisted?

  • No derogatory comments are acceptable, whether they be racist or just general smack. Keep it friendly at all times or an admin may take unwanted notice. If you are offensive without warning, do not expect warning when an admin offends you.
  • Discussions should remain mature and of a mature nature, no explicit sexual content.
  • No join messages (or repeating part messages) or nick names with obscenity or questionable content will be allowed.
  • Obscenity should be kept at a minimum, we're all adults so act like it.
  • If you are offending someone else, stop or we will stop you.
  • If you have a problem with someone else who is in our channel for something they did outside of our channel don't bring it to our channel to settle it. Keep private issues private.
  • Do NOT ask for operator status OR voice. If you are meant to have it you will get it. In general we only grant operator priveleges to members or former members.

LaG Public Channel Standards - Who gets the @ sign and who gets the + sign, and what are they?

  • Current LaG members will get the @ sign or 'ops.' Anyone with an @ sign has control over the channel. These people are responsible for officially representing LaG. No one without a LaG| tag should be opped.
  • Friends of LaG, former LaG members and those we think are really cool will get the '+' sign or 'voice.' This means that if the channel is moderated these people will still be allowed to talk. In general LaG doesn't moderate channels so this mode is simply a status symbol of LaG showing thanks to those who are good to us.
  • Everyone else will get the standard channel mode.
