^^^

This has every bit of information on pets and hunters you will ever need.  It explains the differences between the pets, what pet skills are available from what mobs and taught me most of what I know about hunters.

As for pets I like cats so here are three she might want to check out.

The Rake (Level 10 rare).  He's a normal looking lion with 1.2 attack speed.

Humar the Pridelord (Level 23 elite).  He's the only black maned cat in the game and spawns at the big tree North (and a little East) of Ratchet that is surrounded by lions. (This is the cat I have leveled with since I got him) has a 1.3 attack speed.

Broken Tooth (Level 37 rare).  Reportedly a 1.0 attack speed cat but I never trained him.

If she wants more help just repost here or whisper me in game and I'll help with whatever she needs.

imo, a boar is best before level 20 and possibly even after that. really.

Charge is a really nice pet skill, unfortunately boars can't get Dash which is why I only use them till level 20.

They also eat every type of food there is, so you can use anything you loot to keep it fed.

Joana's levelling guide is made for Horde hunters.  It includes in its step-by-step (about 12 pages worth of them) stops at various places to tame new pets, learn new skills from them, and so on and so forth.  Supposedly the fastest time he has completed level 60 following this method is about 4 days /played.

I have the pages saved to my computer at home, I'll see if I can't post them here later.

there's also a mod called beast master that will tell you what skills you can learn from a pet when you hover over it in the wild.  it can be handy.

No pet will make or break a hunter or keep em from leveling .... hunters can grind out xp super easy.

Over the course of many patchs pets  have been normalized and nerfed so bad that by the time they made combat pursuit speed the same for all of them, the biggest difference about them were the way they looked .... some have more armor, slightly higher dps etc, but none of it is game changing imo

My advice, get whatever pet you like the looks of best, that eats meat or something that is easy to get where ever you are.
