Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007. Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic's seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.

Run and gun (and swear like a sailor) like never before in UT3.
The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.

The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more.
We'll have more on Unreal Tournament 3 soon. In the meantime check the new screens and video.

You know, I actually stumbled across this on Wikipedia yesterday while trying to ascertain if Neverwinter Nights 2 was powered by the Unreal Engine 3 or a different engine.

I thought it was misinformation and almost submitted it for review Tongue  glad I didn't.

P.S. Here's hoping the shock rifle gets a nerf (and we see some fun weapons like the ripper make a comeback).

Well, there's an exceedingly good chance it won't make it back in from reading the Unreal forums Tongue

As for the shock rifle getting a much needed nerf (so it's not one of only 3 weapons people use) I can only hope.

I thought the Ripper was a fun weapon until we played a scrimmage against a team who... oddly enough... ALL could shoot your teleporter disc out of the sky with the Ripper's ALT fire.

I spent the next two weeks working with my ladder admin pals to catch them all running the same, custom written bot.

My favourite part of the Ripper was the primary fire.  No matter how close someone was to me or how big of a room it was or how many I shot.. one of those freakin' blades would always come back and decapitate me.  ALWAYS!  ALWAYS!

Yeah, that was a lot of fun... You'd be in a room and you'd hear one of those stupid things bouncing around and just KNEW it wasn't long before "HEADSHOT" was heard.

Hmmmm I think I'mma have to pick this game up just to get pissed off. Right now I'm hooked on makin money to upgrade for Vegas, DarkBeast got it for 360 and I can't get enough of it. For some reason, RB6 comes natural to me after playin with doom, pizza, wid, casper, red, xeno, saint mike, full_clip, frosty, and s3. I think we need a freakin RvS reunion, UT ain't got NUN!!! J/ks, but I'll prolly pick it up just so I could uninstall it the 1st time I get floored! If i could just figure out how to have a key macro'ed for uninstall...hmmm.
