so i just got this game F.E.A.R, knowing that it was a horror style FPS. i had low expectations about the gameplay, graphics looked ok and i thought i had something unremarkable. 

Loading up the first level, i was impressed by the physics, the dark urban environment, and especially the true sense of movement of your character.  the relationship between the camera view and your characters limbs is seamless, and this realism is furthered by a reasonably distructable environment, and great use of particle effects. if you shoot a concrete floor, then  it will have a little plume of crushed dust, and if a few ominous soldiers have you pinned with suppressive fire, you will actually feel suppressed and claustrophobic from the clouds of dust around your position.. and if you dont react, they will come and get you in a realistic way (and not by just flinging loads of grenades.

The cut scenes are very creepy, and theres _lots_ of ingame poltergeist effects...  youre chasing your first target through an urban setting, and he'll always be juuuust turning around the next corner, and by the time you get there, he has mysteriously vanished.  during this chase, lights flicker out, rubbish bags rustle, boxes and cans rattle (and one time flew threw a window, causing me to be really paranoid).  creepy blood stained man knocks your avatar out with a plank, and it gave me a huge (irl) fright... turned a corner and BAM.

without giving any more away, the tension escalates and by level 3 i was checking every room throughly, under tables, and i was very very reluctant to jump into water ingame.

best atmosphere EVAR!!

-ps the second unique thing is your characters abnormal reactions, you can slow the game down occasionally and shoot 3 guys before theyve had time to draw their weapons

Yeah, it looked really good.  Tons of atmosphere.  I ended up never playing just because the multiplayer demo was really uninspired (very Doom-like).  But the storyline and gameplay in single player looked intense from the trailers.  It featured a little girl and lots of blood splatters.  Kind of creepy.

I saw the trailer for it a while back and it looked really, really creepy.  I'll pick it up eventually in the bargain bin.

ive only been playing it in the day, for like 10mins at a time. very, very creepy

when age of empires came out, i bought it and thought it was amazing. last year (and i shit you not) it came free in a cereal box

I have this game...its ok.kinda creepy..but didn't hold my interest long

yeah i only just got it copied and cracked.

my biggest gripe was that there's only like.. 2 opponents. no variety

Played it all the way......lights in my room never went off *shiver*.....creepy girl.....running at you...omg.

worst thing is you cant shoot her! i _HATE_ the water, ive just stopped playing cause i dont my guy to run in the water.

playing a video game makes me pretty intent on what im doing, and thats the perfect way to get suprised by anything.

the demo just came out...its really good too (although you need a really good pc graphics card)

actually the full version of the game is out. problem is it requires online authentication to work  so you might have to buy it

                        b) my ati x800xl card would run it :p
