Awesome title and link from /.

Apparently, when you turn your iPhone "off" it doesn't actually turn off (thank you Steve Jobs for continuing to believe that you know better than the end user).  Instead it continues to connect and download e-mail/updates so that when you next turn the phone on, they're waiting for you.

Too bad for Jay Levy who took his iPhone with him to the Mediterranean.  He left it "off" but that didn't stop him from ringing up a $4,800 phone bill.

Ouch. Gotta love that AT&T/Apple knew this shit would happen eventually so they put clauses in it in the Terms and Conditions... which no one ever reads, let alone understands.

On my way back from the Carribean there was a dude with an iPhone...  I wonder if this was him?

I'd send the bill to Steve Jobs...

I just like looking at all the ads out for "lost" iPhones.  Someone stole it, dumby!  But yeah, that's pretty nice of them to include such a wonderful feature on a highly portable device.  Hope everyone enjoyed that gift certificate to buy more Apple crap.   Wink

Normally it does not cost US users for domestic data transfers, but the Iphone's international plan in 29 countries, mostly in Europe, costs $24.99 for 20 megabytes.

25$ for 20 megabytes ... he got a 4,800$ Bill, thats like 3840MB ... i doubt thats possible

But the iPhone's international plan in 29 countries, mostly in Europe, costs $24.99 for 20 megabytes. In countries outside the plan, charges can run from $5 to $20 per megabyte, said Ben Wilson, editor of iPhone Atlas, a Web site owned by the online news company CNet.

And he had 3 phones.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7017660.stm

And the ownage continues. If you unlocked your iPhone, it now gets permanently disabled in the latest software update.

When Apple offered a software update for the iPhone, buried in the disclaimer was a warning that if you had unlocked your iPhone to dial in a service other than AT&T, the software update would permanently ruin the phone. No one would ever click "I Accept" if aware that clicking "I Accept" would destroy his or her property! Apparently, Apple not only assumed that no one ever actually reads corporate disclaimers but was hoping no one would actually read the disclaimer.
