Trent Reznor (NIN) has been angry with the music industry for a long time. Earlier this year he released Year Zero and as part of the promotional campaign, started a sort of alternate reality game (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_reality_game) with his fans that included distribution of his new singles on USB Keys.... his record label thought he was infinging on the copy rights of his own songs. Later that year, the record label released a single from Year Zero (survivalism) which was _not_ the single that Reznor wanted. He retaliated by leaking the single he wanted (my violent heart) and even encouraging some radio stations to play it instead.
I followed this link from boingboing and it's a great read from Reznor on why he's angry and what he's planning on doing.

Enjoy the read.
