 Grin

Hi.

As you all know, I've been busy with world domination and such, but something came to my attention.

UT3 demo is out, and people are already puggin.

For those of you who don't know what a pug is, its a pick up game.
A irc bot is setup to create a team, and once the slots are filled, captains are picked. Once the captains are picked, the captains choose the players that joined the pug. Once the pug is filled, the game server IP is posted in the channel and the game begins.

Gameradius, an IRC network, has already established its UT3 pug channels. #UT3ctf #UT3tdm and #UT3.duel

They have about 150 users in each channel.

Old clans like xeno, mulletmen, 51, nbk, kaizen, etc are coming back to the scene and already have their channels on irc.gameradius.net

I took the liberty to register #LaG on gameradius, and we have a few oldschool people coming in it to see what LaG is doing with UT3.
We have a great reputation amongst the community, and after 8 years since UT99, we are still in their memories. They have interest in us but each time an oldschool gamer joins the channel, all he sees is Se7eN and Chanserv.

That being said, I urge everyone in LaG that intends to get a good gaming machine that will run UT3, and who intends to play UT3 under the LaG, to join #LaG on irc.gameradius.net

I'm curious at how many laggers are actually going to dedicate a lil time and money for UT3.

Now, back to world domination. Thnx for reading, and I hope to see you in the channel!

Well, GGCenter as you know hosts the domain UTChat.com - the default IRC network that pops up when you buy any of the UT99 UT2k* games.
UT3 unfortunately, does not have an ingame IRC chat client like its previous versions. Most of us are aware that UTchat.com is the house of noobs. Its where you learn to play. It still has an impressive amount of activity, seeing as it hosts 3 games. But, the real competitive community is not on GGC/UTchat. If you remember the progameplayer IRC days, that's where the competition was at. Eventually when that died, we moved to ETG. Then, 95% of the UT community reformed PGP, not liking ETG (ETG sucks tbh) and formed Gameradius. All the competion is there. You can find people like X6//Tex, ph34r, xellos, nbk-carn, and other world top players on that network. You can also find league admins like GGL-concrete (dunno if you remember him). Basically, the entire competitive UT community is on Gameradius, and UTchat/GGC still gets the noobs coming in asking: why can't I play online.

I'd also like to mention - after reading S3's post on What it means to be a part of LaG, that I don't intend LaG to be #1 in UT3 at all costs. Hell, I wouldn't care if we were dead last. Being #1 is not my priority. I've created some pretty amazing bonds with some members over the years, that have helped me through tough times, as I have helped them. If we were to play UT3 and be dead last. I'd be happy.

Here are my true intentions behind a LaG UT3 competitive team.

I love the competition.
I also love being able to be dead last and still say with 100% honesty: Good game.
I love the adrenaline rush it creates when there's 5 seconds left, the scores are tied, you have the flag and you're 50 feet away from a cap. You have 59 health left, you piston jump yourself to cap leaving you with 1 health...

You decide if I cap or not, and if we win or not.

Either way, Im happy that I just went through that amazing rush.
Its not winning that matters, its the feel of the gameplay, the people with whom you play with, and the circumstances of the game at play.

I hope you understand.

That being said, theres no way in hell people, that I would get a similar feeling, playing against low skilled players. If the opposing team can't deliver any competition, and I can chop their heads off because they dont know how to dodge or strafe, where's the fun? Wheres the fun when you have no competition what so ever? I know a few people who go absolutely bonkers at being able to join a Deathmatch server and win the game hands down, while everybody else is going wtf.

Im sorry but I personnaly find no personal satisfaction out of that. I know I have skills in UT, and when I join a server and find that most of the players are low skilled, and this game is already won and I only did 5 frags, I leave them be and change servers. Its not fun for them, and its not fun for me.
I take fun in the competition aspect, wether I lose or win.

Again, I hope you understand. Thnx for reading!

Very funny  Roll Eyes

I posted my thoughts on a UT3 LaG competitive division, then read your post on what LaG is all about. I saw a huge contrast between what I posted about LaG UT3 and yours. I figured it needed some clarification in order to let everyone know that I hold that LaG gaming mentality, but still love the aspect of competitive online gaming. If LaG can't bring forth a UT3 competitive division, I'm definately joining 51 or xeno for UT3. Both clans already spoke of recruiting me if I was interested. But if LaG manages to create a LaG UT3 team, I'm definately sticking with LaG, regardless of which is the "best" clan. In my opinion, no clan beats LaG, the definition of best is relevant to that person's perspective.

As some of you know, I've been in an active UT ladder playing for www.area51gaming.com in the TWL league. So far, I'm still in the clan, and they expect me to play for them for UT3. But I'm doing some efforts to stir up interest in LaG regarding UT3, so far to no avail. If we do manage to muster up a UT3 division though, on a competitive level, I'm all for LaG. Vertigo, 51's founder, already knows and respects my ties with LaG. He knows that if LaG is reborn with UT3, that I will quit 51 and frag with LaG. I really hope LaG starts a UT3 division.

Yeah, I don't guess I clarified.  I plan to build a machine around the end of the year specifically to handle this game.

The demo was DX9 only, from what I understand.  The game itself will be DX10 and will showcase the Unreal3 engine... so it should be pretty groundbreaking.

Also, I had just planned to build a new computer around that time anyhow, this game was just the benchmark I chose to use.

I could see me playing competitively on both sides of the atlantic  Wink either way you should start to see me around alot more  Grin

That being said theres also the bigass time difference and i'm not sure my old body could cope with night owling so much (i'm 23 damnit! I started hanging around with some of you guys when i was 16?) but thats enough of my mid life crisis  Embarrassed

that's great Deli. I still intend to play UT3 although my pc isnt ready yet. I need to buy some more RAM and a new video card. Once that's done I'm all set. The processor is strong enough to handle the rest. So, I'll keep you posted.  Cool

Actually.  Roll Eyes

I've had a chance to really try out UT3, and I don't see myself playing it. I have UT99 and 2K4 installed though. Also Nexuiz is the shiznitz, regardless of what I2ed3ye says. I recorded some demo's and compressed them into 4-7MB avi's. Take a look Cheesy

http://files.lividandgifted.com/users/Se7eN/Nexuiz/nexuiz4.avi

http://files.lividandgifted.com/users/Se7eN/Nexuiz/nexuiz6.avi

http://files.lividandgifted.com/users/Se7eN/Nexuiz/nexuiz8.avi

Good times. We have a Nexuiz LaG team btw. We also have a Nexuiz server ( 68.202.141.120 ) located in Florida Orlando, on a linux box, it's been up for 28 days and counting. We also joined a 2v2 TDM league (me and crimson). Up to 4 members can be in the team for the 2v2 ladder (2 more spots open for the ladder), but all of you are welcome to join the division if you like the game. Free to play, multi-platform www.alientrap.org/nexuiz

Back on topic, I'm going to keep playing, UT99, 2k4, nexuiz and Q3 until a better FPS comes out.

In my rants previous to this post in the same thread, I spoke of a competitive UT3 team. While re-reading the post I realized I was giving people the wrong image, and I wasn't really saying what I meant in a way that could be well interpreted. I didn't mean I wanted LaG to be #1 at UT3, win a billion dollars and buy our own LaG island. I rather ment, I wanted a team that played competitively, and yes I should have said that and only that in the first place. Anyways, UT99 is still pretty active. GlobalGamers is going to start a ladder for UT99 and other games sometimes relatively soon. In the mean time we have MLUT MLIG and MLSP, a drafting league where you can be in a team and play organized matches through pugs (pick up games). So as long as that's going well, Nexuiz, UT and all that jazz, I'm sticking to these maybe old, but still very good games with what I think have better gameplay than today's flashy back to the futur crap.  Granted, I'll be honest, if I had a machine to run UT3, and I had UT3, I'd probly find my cosy spot in a specific game type that is as close as possible to the previous UT's, something like Classic DeathMatch, but that's not the case. I'm just not willing to upgrade my machine for this game.
