Something we discuss on Vent here and there is politics. We never seem to get too far with it before someone yells "ZOMG STOP!" So let's see if we can have an adult, issues only (no mud-slinging) discussion here. Me, personally, I'm tired of politicians. I don't feel as if I can trust them as none of them have a record of operating under set principles. Every election I research candidates and every election I feel like I'm voting for the "lesser of two evils" candidate when election time comes. As an American I'm not satisfied with that... We can do better. This year, the race is wide open and again I've researched candidates. While there is no single candidate I agree with on all terms, I have found one I will be supporting as long as possible. Ron Paul. I also like Dennis Kucinich, but I've got to choose one or the other and I like Paul's background and intellect. I think it would be a nice change to have someone in office who is genuinely intelligent and principled, even if their ideas seem radical to us nowadays. Dr. Paul was specifically excluded from the recent Fox News debate, even though he has earned more votes (in Iowa) and earned more money through LEGAL donations (look up how some of these politicians fund their campaigns, it's SO illegal) than some of the candidates who were included. Jay Leno took issue with this and had Dr. Paul on his show. Following are links to the two part interview which skims the surface of what Dr. Paul is about. Ron Paul on Jay Leno Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-fwEAf6M1URon Paul on Jay Leno Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLOGak7mYxESo, who do you guys like and why? Let's keep the discussion mature (don't go supporting a communist Hodges) and realistic. Feel free to post links to information about your favorite candidate. Maybe in a few weeks we can have a LaG poll for President.

I feel your pain. I all honesty i dont think there is truly anyone i could support in this election. I think we need someone with a very very strong foreign policy to resolve some of the glaring issues the current asministration has created or help to compound. Unfortunatley, Hillary is probably the most qualified as far as that goes, however Mcain would probably be the better president. I am not sure what i will vote. It is likely I just simply wont vote.

It's good to hear people support Ron Paul, around where I live people say he's insane and won't listen if you try to tell them otherwise.

I was hoping you'd stop by this thread... seems that we haven't given you a lot to chew on lately over here on our boards.

Blu-ray. There is no "e". I like Ron Paul, too, but I cannot support him for one very valid reason. See, Timolan and I cannot possibly agree on any political issues, ever. It's one of those facts of life. And, well... he supports Ron Paul. Therefor, I cannot support Ron Paul. Ever.

Hillary has already served 2 terms as president. I can't believe they're really letting her run again.

I'm on the fence between Obama and Paul. They both seem like very intellectual and sincere people. Both with integrity and spirit. Both promising change with personal and moral inspiration and backings. Although they are kind of polar opposites when it comes to their platforms. Paul is a strict traditionalist Republican. And Obama's kind of a modern hippy Democrat. But I like them both the same.

you should ensure that the change he brings is better than other candidates before you give him your support

That may be so, but absolutely none of those things say a word about her platform or what she'll do in office. Do you think our current president got elected on his strength, tenacity, or intelligence? (Okay, he might be a bad example... I honestly couldn't tell you how he got elected because I can't figure it out aside from the "lesser of two evils".) I was actually an Obama fan until recently... until I heard Ron Paul speak publicly. Wow. That man has a plan. Yes, I know that contradicts my previous post in this thread. C'est la vie.

So you're going to vote for someone based purely on emotion appeal? I don't intend this as a personal attack but I think this is what's wrong with a lot of voters. In my opinion appearance/aesthetics don't matter, there are and were plenty of terrible people in the world who contained all those characteristics you listed I can think of several in particular but won't list them as i refuse to invoke godwin's law . This is not how people should be voted for and is what i believe to be a flaw of democracy.

I haven't been paying that much attention, I know, shame on me. From what I have seen and heard, Obama would be my choice so far. I haven't heard anything about Ron Paul, I'll have to do some research tonight.. I'll edit later.
The one thing I do know is that I feel sorry for whichever poor bastard does win the election. Almost everything is in a mess as of late and if they can't fix it, they'll just get a bad rap like all the rest of them.

I think this video pieces together Ron Paul's platform the best and is easy to watch: http://youtube.com/watch?v=FG2PUZoukfAI show it to everyone I can. Protect Liberty. Elect Ron Paul.

Ugh. Pedro AND Timo support Ron Paul. I can't believe the three of us agree on something political. This has to be a sign of the apocalypse.

I know what she stands for....just look at Bill's 8 years in office, that will tell you right there.
Plus, do you really believe anything any of them tell you...please. There isn't a politician alive that is completely "honest" imo.
I know who I am voting for and I know why...period.

Extremely vague. What do you consider honest? If what you said before is the why then I dont understand.

Would anyone care to comment on the "Hillary's campaign is funded by the Saudi royal family" article posted by The New York Times? Jost pokin' at you BW! But... it is true. And you really should look into Ron Paul if you don't like the standard "politician" mold we find ourselves constantly barraged with. He operates solely on principle, it's quite refreshing imo.
