Starring at your monitor for hours waiting for something exciting to happen on IRC is not the way to go about it.
We IRC because we started playing UT, UT came with IRC chat, enabling people to talk to other gamers, that eventually formed clans and made what the FPS gaming world is today etc. To be honest LaG would have never been the same if it wasn't for IRC. Hell, clans wouldn't be the same. Where would people go for a CoD4 pug or UT pug? Yahoo chat?

Emails and ventrilo and forums is all fine, but mIRC takes up very little space, and its a great way to keep direct contact.
An average of 35 people idle in #LaG daily. Like I said, we don't use it 24/7, so it's only normal that the channel is dead every now and then. I think the days of chatting to "have fun and meet new people" are over, and kind of in the "im 13" chapters.
Those who use IRC are regulars, albeit out of habit. It's not really to meet people or chat, it's like I said above, mostly a means of direct communication, with all the added benefits of being close to other clans, gaming communities etc. Don't get me wrong though, we have great times on IRC. There's countless memories of good times when I think of IRC, and I think all the regulars like I2ed3ye, Deli, Pizzaman, Lazyman, bitchgodess, S3VYN have their share of good memories too. It's a combination of that, and it's usefulness that makes us still use it.
Now Donnie, why did you turn my winter in quebec post into an IRC subject
