DPS Challenge

I still need 4-5 upgrades from the current content we're on with my Warlock, Luktar, but at this point I may have the highest damage output in the guild.  If anyone wants to dispute this, you know where to find me (heroics!).  Khamul, Voodooz, and Oakmist are very close and can pass me on some fights, but not for the long haul.

If one of the recruits can consistantly beat me, they'll have my vote for full membership (assuming no problems with application/personality).

Act fast, I'll be changing my spec for +1% crit and getting new badge gear very soon.

Was just #1 in Gruul's Lair.  Oakmist, Khamul, Khellendross were all not there.  And on just the Gruul fight, Renegades did a tiny bit more damage than me - he finally respecced BM.

Next time we do Lurker, we'll test your theroies, due to the melee unfriendlyness of gruul (having to watch your threat for the OT or you get to eat Hatefuls, and having to wait to DPS again due to same reason after being chucked across the room) yeh. although i can still come in on top, its more luck than anything else.

meh i can get BOJ stuff to to get back to where I was.. Being a mage is more then Gear, its Rotation and staying alive..  I know you can say this about any dps class but as a Mage with a mana pool knowing how to make it last while pumping out the Max amount of dps takes a little bit of skill...

But you have to consider a lot of stuff like group synergy, esp between s. priests and locks :|

My epeen is no bigger than my RL peen, I know they all out dps me... I use the same rotation as all the other mages that out dps me, and I generally have better stats, Malestrom and I have spent hours trying to figure this out.

I'd venture a guess and say that the dps class/spec that takes the least skill is a destruction lock specced 0/21/40.  The only thing you do is put up a Curse of Shadows and then literally spam shadowbolts constantly until the mob is dead, stopping only to reapply CoS every 5 minutes LOL.  On trash you might sneak in a Shadowburn, but that's it.  As long as you're smashing the button, you'll do good dps.  I suppose a little bit of knowledge comes into play while managing your mana.

IMO it's really a shame that this spec is so useful.  I loved being Affliction and managing all of my DoT's, but when a Luktar with far inferior gear out dps'd me in Kara one night, I had to give in.

Mages who are in groups during raid time, with a shadowpriest and shaman will get 100+ extra damage/second from the totems and be less likely to run out of mana thanks to the spriest. 

Also, having latency/fps issues will cause you 'artificial lag' in game, even if you have dsl, reducing your damage per slower overall casts.  I have this issue as I have Windoz Vista installed, the significant of that being the more ram you have on a Vista computer the more it will try to eat up with crappy background options you don't choose and never use.  Since getting my nice new 'duo-core' computer I've had a never-ending power struggle with Vista, whereby it gives itself administrator options and had done random crap such as locking me out of my own profile, changing access levels to saved files and my latest one, changing my sound card drivers to an unknown type and changing it to default for all my programs.

Get the Quartz addon, it gives you an indicator on your cast bars that shows your latency, so you can more accurately time casts if you have a complex rotation (a la arcane mage).  If you're just pounding one key over and over again, it doesn't help... but it's still nice to have.

Giller, I think I just might be able to better your dps, I know it's very close. I still have a few upgrades coming myself, so I think it'll be interesting to see who's higher.

I really like the Prince fight for measuring ranged dps.  It's nice and long, everyone has to move at the same time if at all, and you have to manage your threat. 

Having a Shadow Priest makes a fairly big difference but I think we can just assume that for every 25-man, we'll have a Shadow Priest in some group.

Having a Shaman in my party does help a lot and a Moonkin would also be good, but if we don't have a Paladin for Salvation it's hard for a tank to keep up with over 1000 dps.

the prince fight is a terrible measure of dps.. melee has to run in and out.. you should know this

so, seeing as how yall get to go apeshit in raids with ur dps madness due mostly in part to some dare i say decent threat gen on my part , bosses specifically, trash is nail biter for me these days. i want to make a couple quick points: 1) we have some new and not super geared tanks so careful!
2) nick u die a lot 3) u guys bragging about your ability to go all out is my personal epeen, and as long as it doesnt interfere with important raid time by all means brag away! love u guys, yall make me feel good

As long as I have salvation, I generally don't pull agro on something that I can't kill before it kills me.  And I try to do things like cast Curse of Shadows and Corruption in the beginning so that my main dps is delayed long enough for the tank to get out their initial high threat abilities.  After that, if the tank can't hold agro it doesn't matter if I wait 5 seconds or 20 seconds, I'll pass them eventually.
